As I said (I think) the tutorial shows teachers how to cope with streaming
video in the EQ MOE environment. Sites like KeepVid do not work. This one
does. From my point of view as a network manager (and lots more) the videos
are captured to disk and used in class. This reduces network and especially
internet traffic. Good. But it is not worth a long discussion. You like it,
you use it.

I am not an EQ teacher so I don't have access to this, but does it offer more
than sites like www.keepvid.com do? This seems the simplest method to me.

1. ICT Community is an EQ facility so it demands a username and password.
I have not noticed a similar file sharing option for QSITE but it would be a
good idea.
2. My tutorial was written specifically for the CFT (Computers For
Teachers) laptops distributed by EQ. However the only special setting is the
EQ autoproxy site.
3. As it stands the Firefox tutorial lets teachers download streaming
video in FLV format. Some of my people wanted to embed their video in
Microsoft Media Player. This requires AVI file format. There is a simple way
to do that and I will soon build it into the tutorial but it has not been done
yet (we had a lightning strike at school).
I am certain that users need these step by step tutorials. The level of
computer knowledge in the teacher corps is low and most teachers lead
excessively busy lives that deny them the chance to sit and search for
information. I am really happy to share the tutorials I write. Why not? I
even announced this tutorial on the two EQ computer mailing lists but that
often reaches only one user per school.

I just want to say a big thank you to Bob Fifoot. I was browsing the ICT
community site when I happened across his pdf instructions about how to
download video streams using Firefox. I have had several staff ask me how to do
this and I had no clue. I am now running a PD at my school next Thursday to
enable interested staff to be install all the software I downloaded! What a
great resource!
