a) it parses the source code of your projects and all included header files 
(that includes parts of Qt)
b) it scans the include paths of your projects for files with .h extension (for 
include completion)

The file system / operation system that you use might do some file caching, 
leading to different performance during different runs of Qt Creator, as far as 
I know Qt Creator does no caching of this info itself.
