I did notice this line during the configure phase:
MMX/3DNOW/SSE/SSE2..  yes/yes/yes/yes

That said, I am running XCode 3.0, and XCode 3.1.2 is now out.
I am downloading it and will report here if the newer version of gcc  
helps.
