But Qwt does it - isn't this allowed ?

This topic has already been discussed early 2007 with the (former) TrollTech
support with a different conclusion than yours.

If you have archived all support requests you can find it by the key "[Issue
N150279] qHash(double key)" dated 12. Feb 2007. If not - these are the last
two postings of your support engineer in this thread:

| [ 20. Feb 2007]
| This is because of toSet which creates a set. Instantiating the
| template with double causes compilation to break in QSet (which is
| implemented with QHash). I'll follow up some more with our developers
| and get back to you."

| [ 20. Feb 2007]
| This task is now scheduled for 4.3, thank you for chasing this and make
| me understand the problem."

Unfortunately I don't know if there has been an entry in your task tracker
to find out, what exactly had been done. But the problem was gone with Qt
4.3.

Why ?

This declaration is there since many years - what doesn't mean, that it has
to be correct, but at least it was no problem for many Qt releases.

And it can't be the source for the problem of the code snippet Michael has
posted.
