I am interesting in upstreaming our WebKit2/Harmattan input method
handling currently based on stock Qt 4.7 + libmaliit.

That will also mean that our Qt5 webkit port will work with any
current open source system using Maliit.

I guess this is a sensible starting point, and it could be done as a
compile time flag.
