I also don't think it's an issue with the cpu percentage, as the computer seems to be hitting similar levels of cpu on cinnamon. I think it may be a problem with the fan drivers, but I'm not sure how to work from there and find if that is the issue.
The fans on my computer don't come up with pwmconfig, which seems to be the suggested course of action.
