Hi all,
I know there are a lot of Windows users out there who want to see what's
going on with quackle. I have created a Knoppix that has quackle on it.
(What's a knoppix?) A Knoppix is a bootable cd that starts up a
complete operating system directly from the cd, without touching the
underlying OS. So, if you have a relatively recent computer with
windows on it, you could use this knoppix cd to boot into unix and try
out Quackle without changing your windows installation at all.
If anyone is interested, I can provide an .iso file so people can burn
cd-roms of this disk image. I don't really have a server to distribute
this 600MB file, but I could probably get it to club at los gatos or
san jose if someone else wants to distribute it somehow.
( I tried to add zyzzva (* ?) to the disk also, and MAVEN, but I
couldn't get the help files in zyzzva to compile (missing
QtAssistantClient) and MAVEN just wouldn't run under wine (windows
emulation))
Let me know if you're interested.
Jimmy
That's awesome, Jimmy. If somebody can hook me up with the .iso or mail me a cd, I'll make copies to hand out in Dallas next week. Maven does sort of work in wine, depending on your versions of Maven and wine, but at best you have to monkey with it to get the window to refresh.

Lexpert works perfectly in wine, so you should probably include it. You could also include Letterbox, which can be gotten from the sourceforge project "anabot" and needs Qt 3, not 4. You might want to fool around with the preferences for Letterbox (~/.qt/letterboxrc), as the default is for it to go at jasonkb/olaugh speed, and there's no options screen. It's rough, as is Quackle, but I'm sure some people would like to see it.
Thanks,
John
