Or, in something like English:

The amounts shown for two letters are differences between
the estimated value of having both tiles and the sum of
the estimates of the two letters' values.

E.g., using the examples given earlier (SOWPODS values):

      synergy L or E N/R/U/V/ sum of combo's
                       W/X/Y/Z 2 vals value
     LN -0.48 -0.37 -0.16 -0.53 -1.01
     LR -0.63 -0.37 0.51 0.14 -0.49

     EU 0.51 1.10 -3.05 -1.95 -1.44
     EV 1.20 1.10 -5.11 -4.01 -2.81
     EW -0.10 1.10 -3.91 -2.81 -2.91
     EX 0.39 1.10 3.10 2.00 2.39
     EY -1.57 1.10 -0.98 0.12 -1.45
     EZ 0.46 1.10 4.82 5.92 6.38

(Quackle comes with individual tile values that are placed in
Quackle/data/strategy/worths, and the synergies between pairs
of tiles in Quackle/data/strategy/syn2.)

hxfirexed_fla may rest easy: Quackle does not work on the
assumption that "EU/EV is stronger than EX or EZ".

Let me add my *huge* thanks for Quackle to the creators (&
John Fultz for helping create the Windows version), and to
