Good day all,

I finished compiling the word list.  I broke it down into 4 files, or else it is too big.  Right now it is 228 pages long.*

If someone out there is good with .PDF, can they figure out how to compress them better.  If they can get smaller that is.  I have the source .html files but they are bigger and make your browser crawl when opened.

You can find the volumes on http://www.ottawascrabbleclub.com/ then go to the study room and look under lists.

Make sure you double side your printer.  Save a few trees.  So far, it's doing me pretty good, it's nifty to see the strategy with regards to word length and the word played.

The 2's and 3's are the #1 priority to learn.**
4's 5's and 6's are used mostly as dumps or power tile plays.
7's and 8's both start with 5 vowel words as priority then move quickly to the stems.

It's definitely a neat way to learn the words.  By learning just the first volume, you probably cover 75%*** of all plays you're ever likely to see.

* Word list does not contain every word.  For example, BUBBLE never made it into even 1 game out of over 1.3 million games.
** No, fortunately I didn't need to do this exercise to discover that.  You'll also note that ZZZ is nowhere to be found.
*** The 75 percent stat was made up.  I have no idea what it really is.

Cheers.

GREAT JOB guys on quackle!  Keep it up!

*** Not strictly true. It is possible to devise games where a Z is
already on the board and the two blanks are both used as Z's. What is
impossble are words containing 4 Z's.

+++Sorry, what I was alluding to, is that the probability and uselessness of playing ZZZ or ZYZZYVAS makes them words you shouldn't even considered worrying about knowing.

*** I wonder how many games would need to be played to use up all
178,691 words available. What source is the 178,691 figure based on?

+++From a word list I got off of i believe www.zyzzyva.net It was a week or so that I retrieved it.  I was at one point thinking about making the word list show with all the tenses.  But I realized that would take up way to much printed space.  So I am only going to have hooks and anagrams.

*** None at 392 then, like BEZIQUES and CAZIQUES! Or even 383 or 374.

+++Nope, they were played lots but just not for a T-T
Heck, even mommy wasn't played...not once!
