I was watching quackle play quackle in some games this morning (an exciting
life I lead) and came across a position where I believe quackle would've
been better off passing instead of making a play.

#player1 quackle quackle
#player2 quackle2 quackle2
quackle: DFIILST 8G FID +14 14
quackle2: DEILNOU 7D UNOILED +72 72

quackle: Q - +0 370
quackle2: F B8 ..F +32 593
quackle2: (Q) +20 613

When Quackle2 plays TOLA, it blocks REM, leaving only RAY as a play for
Quackle's R. However, this sets up REF/FRAY for Quackle2. If Quackle
passes instead of playing RAY, Quackle 2 goes out with FE/FORE,EX 12M for
21, making the final tally 602-364 instead of 613-370, saving 5 spread
points.

Is solving this problem any more difficult than adding a PASS to the list of
possible endgame moves? 99%+ of the time it will quickly be disregarded,
but once in a while, I think it will be correct.

Thanks,

Paul Cole
