I have managed to hit two deer in my lifetime.  The first one I ran into on patrol (MP in Germany) and the poor thing didn't die out right.  I was wearing a gun, of course, but the station wouldn't give me permission to kill the animal.  I had to go to the Polizei and ask them to shoot the deer.  Unfortunately, by the time we arrived back at the scene it was already dead.  I really don't like killing animals, but I definitely respect your view.  Although, that being said I would have rather kill that deer then see it suffer.

The second deer, thankfully, died on impact.  It is also occurred while I was on patrol in Germany.  I could be thankful that both of them were German deer and therefore relatively small.  Both times I was driving a German VW van.  The irony is there wasn't a single bit of damage to the van either time.

Hi Billy,

I like a few of the others don't agree in killing animals for sports, but I can't understand why the guy at the petrol station couldn't let you shoot the deer after hitting it!!  Okay it sounds cruel, but it's a lot kinder to the animal to put it out of pain quickly if there's no way or saving the animal.  Sounds horrible, but it's a sad fact that my mum has always made me realise and understand.
