Wheel....you explained that VERY well.  You're so right, war is never really understood.  That's why after i watched "Dear America" it i got closer to it than i have ever conceived...i also saw what a complete DEBACLE THE vIETNAM WAR WAS FROM THE BEGINNING TO OUR DEPARTURE...just as it is in Iraq, we never really understood how to fight them, very little about our enemy, WHO the enemy was, WHERE they were.  In this film you see the total disillusion on the VERY young soldiers...the FEAR on their face...most not even knowing why they were dying in such great numbers.  For the most part, they were thromping around the jungle just waiting for ambush....there was one kid about 19 that wrote home about how many guys he had lost in his unit...he knew his number was coming, and within a week, he and 22 others of his unit were dead.

I just want to say to ANY president we have...."Please make DAMN sure when you send our young into war it's a really really good reason, and please make sure you're willing to send your own son...because, just like in Vietnam, most of our leaders (president/congress) never send their kids...."

I'm dying to know (bad choice of words), at what point do we figure that bringing peace, security and freedom to Iraq will not be acheived/??  The lastest i heard we could be there for 10-15 yrs,.....the money (almost 4 billion) in reserve for rebuilding has just been shifted into security, which we are really NOT keeping very good...33 car bombs in last few days and lots of murdering we never hear about.  I would personally be heart-sick if my boy died over there....please, don't misunderstand me, i'm not saying Kerry has the answers, i just know what we have right now ain't working for me...

sorry such a long post...i hate long posts!! lol

War is hell.  Any war is hell.  Those who have been thru one don't discuss
the details with those on the outside.  Most would not understand.  There are
times in battle when you follow orders to protect your fellow soldiers and there
are times when  a soldier must protect themselves.  What it takes to do that
is not always pretty or worth repeating to others who were not there to
experience the battle.
Any time someone tries to convey a battle event, the words get fumbled and
miscued.
This is one reason the words of combat are seldom repeated at home.
