Thanks Mark for putting it more elegant than me.
I'm just a good ol boy but this is what I've been trying to say.
Perfect!

Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] "scientific proof" & "junk science"
I do not necessarily like Kerry, but given the alternative I do believe Bush is much worse. I could not help but address each of your comments individually...
Snip - "There is no ban on embryonic stem research."
Almost all funding for basic research comes from government funded sources. It is what has kept the United States at the forefront of technological development worldwide for the past few hundred years. By placing a ban on federal funding, Bush is by defacto placing a ban on the research.
Snip - "There is no scientific proof at this time that it works better than adult stem cells."
Your idea is true, that there is a lot of hope for uses of adult stem cells. However, there is no proof of anything until after a discovery is made! That is why is called research! "Scientific proof" is the result of a discovery made through research, not the precursor of it! There was no scientific proof that a wheel would be more efficient than simply dragging things around, until someone made a wheel and then by direct observation it was known to be a more efficient improvement. There is no scientific proof that one chemical combination will work better than another at treating a particular ailment, until after it's been tried and tested. Prior to that there are only theories based on existing knowledge. I do not know why, but at this time scientists theorize based on existing knowledge that embryonic stem cell research holds more promise for treatments than adult stem cells do.
Snip - "Do you want real science funded or "junk science"."
And I suppose you are qualified to make that distinction? The science of many men through history was labeled in their time as "junk science" only to be exonerated as geniuses by later generations.
Snip - "KERRY IS LYING!"
You are entitled to your opinion, however if that is true then many professionals most likely much more knowledgeable than you or I are lying to us all, not Kerry. He is simply listening to, and repeating what the research scientists and other professionals in the medical community have said. If you listen to the tone of his comments, he always refers back to the medical community. That is more than I can say for Bush whose comments ring with the tone, "I believe" (emphasizing the ' I') What I disdain about Bush is his arrogance both on this issue and in foreign affairs. He seems to believe his wisdom is greater than that of specialists and advisers who are infinitely more knowledgeable, insightful, and experienced in their fields then he!
