Meredith, Last year my left elbow in a matter of 8 hours became red and tripled in size. When the doc saw it I was immediately hospitalized and my elbow split open like a watermelon, a gash about ten inches long on the back of my arm. That was followed by two weeks of iv's. Apparently a bacteria of Nazi magnitude had entered my arm through a cracked callous on my elbow. Twas an experience I'll not soon forget.
I've also  had bursitis a few times in my elbows, a result of pushing them on the chair arms. Antibiotics and hot compresses helped. Also, perhaps you can receive iv as an outpatient if home health isn't an option. Larry

Can your doctor set you up with home health to keep you out of the hospital.  We have that option here if covered.

Hi all,
i just have a question, I have an infection in my elbow and my whole arm has swelled up. I am on 2 antibiotics and the doc has drained it once with a needle, which has helped a little. Tomorrow I have an Dr's apt and he may have to put me on an IV which means being hospitalized for 3 to 4 days. I don't do the hospital well at all, in fact it feels like a jail sentence. Has anyone else here ever had any strange infections? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Meredith
