                 ~TRAILS OF LIVING~

A MATTER OF TRUST
During a flight between
New York and Chicago, the captain made this announcement over the plane's intercom: "Our number four engine has
just been shut off because of mechanical trouble. There is nothing to worry about, however, and we can still finish the flight with just three engines. Besides, you will be reassured to know that we have four bishops on board."
An 86-year-old woman called the flight attendant and said,"Would you  please tell the captain that I would rather have four engines and three bishops!" Experience taught her to place her trust in the aircraft rather than passengers -- even if they're bishops!
Experience, likewise, has taught us to be careful of what and whom we trust. We learn to be careful trusting risky investments, offers to make easy money, people we don't know, and anything that seems "too good to be true." We are sometimes even afraid to trust ourselves!

Helen Keller learned a great deal about trust in her life as one who
was both sightless and deaf. She learned to trust people, upon whom
she was often dependent. She learned to trust herself and lived a highly productive life in spite of her handicapping conditions. As a noted writer and thinker, she taught us that trust is vital to any happy life.
That great woman believed there are four great things to learn in life. They are:
   To think clearly without hurry or confusion;
   To love everyone sincerely;
   To act in everything with the highest motives;
   To trust God unhesitatingly.
Trust. It is a small word which can make a big difference.

                    ~TRAILS of LIFE~

7 Wonders of the World                                                                   A group of Geography students studied the Seven Wonders of the World.
At the end of that section, the students were asked to list what they considered to be the
Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes:                                                         1. Egypt's Great Pyramids,
2. Taj Mahal,
3. Grand Canyon,
4. Panama Canal,
5. Empire State Building,
6. St. Peter's Basilica,
7. China's Great Wall.                            While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl,  hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list.The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said,
"Well, tell us what you have,

 and maybe we can help."

The girl                                                     1. to touch
2. to taste
3. to see
4. to hear                                                She hesitated a little, and then,
5. to run
6. to laugh
7. and to love.                                            It is far too easy for us to look at the exploits of man and refer to them as "wonders" while we overlook all that God has done, regarding them as merely "ordinary."                             -May you be reminded today of those things which are truly wondrous.

                                           ~TRAILS of SCRIPTURE~

âThanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other the fragrance of life.â â 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

The wind shifts in October, carrying on the breeze the scent of a seasoned wood-fire from a neighborâs chimney. Lean out your window, draw a deep breath, and you can smell the scent of pine from a nearby woods. Or someone baking an apple pie next door. I love this time of year because of the wonderful new aromas in the air. Itâs amazing how a scent â even a fragrance â evokes powerful feelings.
                                                                                        Todayâs verse speaks of the power of fragrance. Itâs another way of saying, âI want to live in a way that will perpetually remind God of the obedience, sacrifice, and devotion of the Lord Jesus. I want my words and deeds to bring to Godâs mind fragrant memories of the earthly life of his Son.âWhatâs more, our godly words and deeds not only remind God of his Son, but remind others of him, too â whether they believe in Jesus or not. To be obedient among the fellowship of believers is to carry with you the fragrance of Christ. To be obedient in a wicked world is to remind others of the stench of death. But thatâs not bad! Sometimes the wicked need to face their own mortality to be awakened out of their spiritual slumber. No matter how others interpret it, just be certain to waft Jesus their way.
The smell of hot apple pie brings to mind deep-rooted memories. A wood fire or the scent of pine will do the same. In the same way, your life of obedience can please God with an aroma that reminds him of Jesus. Be fragrant. Be a sweet smelling savor. Be obedient and, thus, be Godâs memory of his Son. * * * * *May my life give off the scent of Christ to all those around me. And, Father, may my obedience bring a smile to you, today, reminding you of your precious Son.âJoni Eareckson

               ~TRAILS of PRAYER~

"Dear God, thank you that you are not
only a God of love, justice and mercy, but also a God of
infinite beauty. As best I know how I surrender my heart
and life to you and as that you will make something
beautiful out of my life. Thank you for hearing and
answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."
