I have tried melatonin, but unfortunately it wasn't strong enough to put me to sleep.  I was taking the melatonin with the sleeping medication Restaril and it worked pretty good, but a psychologist friend of mine said I should try Trazodone because it works better in restoring your sleep and is not addicting, but the trazodone has not been strong enough to put me to sleep either.  So I was been stuck taking both of them, which is giving me that drugged feeling the next day.
Sleep aids are designed to help you GET to sleep.  Not to PUT you to sleep.  Have you tried consulting a sleep disorders clinic?
