"Lori, yes those 4 are bad, I nearly died with psuedamonas. It seems I have infections a lot and my doctor say's that's part of having an indwelling catheter -- like my supra pubic. Right now I have 3 types of bacteria and he said to just let it go, I have had dark foul smelling urine for months--- my question is Do you ever try d-mannose and if so, do you think it helps any?"
Your urine doesn't sound good but if you're having no fever, no pain, no heavy sludge... mine has been that way many times in the 80s & 90s and I stayed off drugs.
Nope... haven't tried D-Mannose even though I've looked at it, It's essentially an herb and I had my husband (microbiology guru) look at it's info. He said that, thus far, it's proven only to POSSIBLY help if E-coli is the bug (a common colonized bug in foley cathed people). So am, not going to.
However, on the SCIC list ... some people are swearing by Grapefruit seed extract capsules. Also just an herb & hubby thinks it's fruitless to try (no pun intended... lol) but a guy whose bugs became resistant to Cipro began using it and has been UTI free for a long while.
I tried cranberry capsules and they didn't help.
I began Cipro yesterday & I peed over 3000 CCs last night of good-looking urine. Looks like it's flushing me out. My ab pain is lingering but have only had 2 doses.
