I understand from my sister-in-law that Colorado has many accessible recreational parks, activities and housing.  She is always asking for me to visit my brother and herself as well as their kids.  I also have a power chair.  Though I don't have any firsthand accounts regarding accessibility, I am aware of wheelchair camps held somewhere in the state.  My brother and her are both nurses.  So I'm sure she realizes what accessible for me and my chair and therefore I give her opinion some weight

Firstly, I'm so envious you can actually DO something like that!  The odds of me vacationing & planning one have collapsed 3 times in 3 yrs!  And I can't fly so that's out.  Enough about me.

I always wondered how quads who "flew" somewhere ... WHAT they did for transportation once they got there!

I haven't had to do it yet but the place to go for van rentals is

Wheelchair Getaways, Inc. provides wheelchair accessible van rentals for people with disabilities. The full size and mini vans include features such as:
  • plush interiors
  • top-of-the-line wheelchair lifts or ramps
  • 4-point wheelchair tie-down systems with seat belts
  • front and rear air-conditioning and heat
  • easy seating for up to four additional passengers
  • hand controls
National Rental Info - 1-800-642-2042

I imagine only larger towns have them but there's a start for your plans!

Subject: [QUAD-L] Fun vacation for power chair user?

Hi Folks,
I'm looking to plan a fun vacation for the family but don't know where to start.  I have 3 kids - 6, 8 and 16.  I use a power chair and so worried about accessibility.  We're looking to go somewhere this summer.  Has anyone flown, had to rent an accessible van, etc.  I'd love to hear some good travel stories.

Thanks,  Sharon the 'Roo slayer
