I have followed this thread and even the tributaries. I personally feel this particular round seems to be hitting the situation in the right light. Similar to Tony, I had more women interested me when I was in the hospital rehabilitating. This could be because I was in close proximity and continuous contact with many of the individuals or It could be maternal. Don't know, don't care. What I do know is that I have always tried to put myself in the position of an able-bodied person. I know when my wife (now ex-wife) decided to remain living in Germany, I was extremely hurt, but also understood that if I was in the same position I may have done the same thing. I don't know if I would have given up my profession and my chosen country to be by her side, so I chose not to blame her for her actions. I knew deep inside if she was able to get me to move to Germany we would still be together today. Actually, she is seriously considering relocating here now after almost 10 years.

Stacy, you are a remarkable individual which had the luck of having a mother which had the foresight to instill certain beliefs in your young mind which not all of us enjoyed. While my mother tried her very best to make sure I was brought up with proper values and morals, she is a product of her time. When I was young, she was the one nudging me not to stare and telling me it was impolite. Now that I am in the chair she doesn't think that way anymore. She understands that is more beneficial to answer the question of a child then it is to brush it off. I wish I could say I would have definitely been attracted to person in a wheelchair regardless of the wheelchair, but I can make no positive assurances. I was never in the position. Much like those individuals who consistently tell me they would have stuck by me to the bitter end if they were in my wife's position. I try my best to tell them they were not in that position and therefore cannot judge. Not everyone is the same ! and we need to embrace the differences in individuals.

Ive read all your post regarding the quads having harder times getting dates. I agree with this but we all must remem, ber that in the end all of us only want to impress one person from the oppossite sex and make the most of it , possibly a life partner. Just because billy bob para can get 35 more women who really cares, that's 34 more than he needs. Lets fface it once your in a chair for a few years we all arent as shallow as we used to be. But I will tell you guys this funny little story about when I first had my injury in the hospital. I was a new cop at the time dating a female cop in training. I had my accident 8 weeks after  I started. My gf stayed by my side for about two months then said she needed to get ready for softball and broke off the relationship and left me in the hospital bed. I cried cussed and beat the walls a little. But near! ly a year later I saw her again, she asked me if I was angry. I said no i understand what u did and why you did it.............you were dating a mustang then it turned into a pinto...you dont want a pinto you want a mustang. She just looked at me, then we continued a conversation and went for a bite to eat. The moral to all this is theirs always someone lower on the totem pole than you and always someone higher, it will be what you make it..........at the same time put yourself in the shoes of the walking people , back when you were on your feet would you have dated a chair person quad, para, stroke or any other? We are all in the same club now. Hope I made people think...........

Ron....great post!!  I just got home from work, so this will be short, but i've always thought i'm a Corvette engine inside this beat up rusted Corvette body....if the girl ever opens her mind to feel the power of my engine, they fall for me, and for the most part it's true...but if they put the wall up, they will only see the beat up Corvette.

Funny thing, when i was in hospital in TERRIBLE looking shape...i had a lot of nurses/therapists attracted.  First girl i had sex with after my accident was a nurse....a respitory therapist used to kiss me (hard sexual kiss) at night.  I never understood that attraction, except that maybe i touched a maturnal nerve in them, and it drew them to me...not sure

peace...tony c5c6
