Hey Jim I'm thinking about getting one also but how thick is your air mattress and what size bed did you purchase?

Yes, I do believe you still should be using your alternating air mattress. I have my alternating air mattress on top of my foam mattress and sleep like a baby. I also had a noisy pump but it did not last long and then I purchased one made by Invacare, which is very quiet.
