Silas,   If you have the standard home hospital bed you are too tall for it and need the extension kit.  When I first got my bed I complain because I was sliding down all the time and my feet were overhanging and I'm only 5'-11."  They told me to raise my feet up a little bit first and then my head because the standard length bed is for somebody up to 6'-3."  Give your supplier a call and see what they say.   Jim
