Lindsey, I hope you don't take this wrong, but you sound pretty
bitter that you are paralyzed. I hope that you are coping well. I
had a very hard time when I hit two years. I went to the Neurologist and
that was the mark when he said I wouldn't recover anymore. I took it very
hard and actually got some counseling. It's been 3 and 1/2 yrs for me now. I had
a rare type of encephalitis that inflamed my brain and spine that put me into a
coma for a month and when I woke up, I was paralyzed from the neck down. I
didn't know what was going on around me for about a month after I woke up and
don't have very many memories of the moments I had during that time. I am
doing everything that the doctors said I would never do but never the less that
two year mark was very hard. I'm going to school to be a social worker to help
disabled adults hopefully. I'm working towards something that I know about
and actually I feel great that I found a purpose for myself as I am. If I
made the wrong assumption, I am very very sorry.
Now your pain, I went through the same thing about that time as
well. IT's when it was pretty much at it's worst. I guess I started
getting used to it. I did discuss it with my doctor. Have you?
I started seeing a pain specialist when they figured out it wasn't any other
factors (cushion, too long in chair). I am taking neurontin and a low dose
of methadone. The same they use for people with addictions b/c it numbs
nerve endings somehow. I also do pressure releases. No where near as
often as I should and I am very lucky I'm not having any problems. I also
sleep on either side at night. Try to stay off of your butt as much as
possible. Also if you dont have the strength to push yourself up in the
chair, try leaning to each side and pushing off of the other armrest. That
is what I did before I could push up to get my butt off of the cushion.
Good luck with your pain and try discussing it with your doctor. Fill us
in on what happens with the the results and if it really was that
cushion or not.
