Dan,

I have had a suprapubic for well over nine years and I change mind roughly every two to three weeks. This is because I tend to clog them in that time frame. As a matter of fact, I will be having my catheter change the night, just too much Sprite. I had a lot of difficulties with my catheter is when they were smaller. I currently use a 22 French. I also irrigate frequently and make sure my catheter is secured so it does not irritate my bladder. I hope this helps.

My urologist told me to change mine every two weeks, but she also said they could last up to one month. However, she indicated this was not a very good idea, and that it could lead to potential UTIs and the possibility the bladder might adhere to the catheter. I had difficulty with this when they tried to put in a silicone catheter. I tried to tell them I was allergic to silicone products, but they would not listen to me. You think that when the ENT clinic was forced to rip out my trach, because the skin had adhered to the tracheotomy tube, they would understand that I have problems with silicone.

Hi All,

Been awhile since I've been on this list. looks like a lot of folks are missing. Breezy, Keith, the dude that had to move to a nursing home when his parents were no longer able to take care of him, many more i can't think of right now - what happened to them?

Anyhoo, I've just been introduced to a Supra Pubic - graduated from a Foley. The more I deal with Urologists, the more incompetent they seem to be. My first Uro said to change it every 3 months - #18 French. After 2 and 1/2 months I called him to say that something was wrong. I was passing very little urine and what I was passing was very clear - not junky as usual. Worse part, my abdomen was extremely distended and if I strained to have a bowel movement, I would pass urine through my penis! He said -'that's odd. I'll have a look........next week!?!' The next day I was in the emergency room with a b! locked cath and they couldn't remove it because it had been it so long it had collected deposits on the end of the cath that wouldn't let it pass through the stoma. Back in goes the Folely. My new uro says - 'never go longer than 1 month between changes'. Have you SP's out there ever experienced anything like this?

Dan
