I was in a local hospital when someone either told me or I heard it--its a little fuzzy. I said "oh shit"
Then I was transported to the hospital of my choice by ambulance. The helicopters were busy-- Rats, missed out on flying in a helicopter!
I was in and out of it as the night progressed. I do not remember them putting that thing that they screwed into my head to attach the weights onto. I was on weights for 10 days, then they did the surgery. I was given a pain med, but my right shoulder hurt like h***, so they lessened the degree the bed rotated on that side. When they opened the 'bottom' section of the bed, the pain was horrible.
Nobody has ever told me what I said as I came out from the anesthetic. Not even now. I do remember as I finally came to, of talking to someone then thinking I need to open my eyes to see if a person was really there. There wasn't.

I don't remember knowing what a broken neck meant.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Confirmation of SCI

Hey gang,
how did you find out that you had a SCI? Family member, doctor or reality? How did they say it? What did you do, think or say?
