Hi Jim,
It's still a very slippery slope on all one has to look into. For example, Assisted Living Facilities charge an astronimocal amount of money. I was in one for over a year and was in a small town. For a studio apt (ONE rolom and bathroom) plus 3 crappy meals and limited daily staff help.. I was paying $2200.00/month. It's much more now especially in bigger cities.
Secondly, trying to find honest, reliable, dependable steady help (live in or otherwise) is a nightmare ... as we know.
Thirdly, OUR biggest dilemma is wanting to buy our own home. BUT my husband has reservations on what would happen to that big investment should something happen to him. IF I couldn't stay there alone for whatever reason. In fact, been there, done that with my ex who split. I couldn't find home help I needed so I moved into an asst liv facility. Took months to rent my house and I had a mortgage to pay! Finally sold it but took a loss.
4th -- and MOST important is hubby wondering whether to leave me with a *lifetime of savings* IF it'll end up being pissed away in 3 yrs in another asst living facility or? Financial suicide. *sigh*
I'm sure your case worker is looking out for your best interest but it's not her life and "she" may not even be around (another social worker care-nothing) when/if you need her for a soft place to fall.
Big worries here.
Lori

I had to chuckle when I read this post. Just last week I decided to call my county social worker to find out what would happen to me if I got divorced or if something happen to my wife. For some reason curiosity got the best to me so I decided to make the call. I was pleased to find out that my social worker would do everything in her power to keep me out of a nursing home because I'm in generally good health for a quadriplegic and she would do her best to place me in an assisted living complex or into my own apartment or home. My biggest fear is being on my own but that would be my first choice because of all the freedom.
