TESTIMONY CONTINUES IN NURSING HOME BEATING DEATH

Forty-seven-year-old Gayla Smith Wilson is on trial for capital murder in the 2003 murder of 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan at the Dallas County Nursing Home.

State police Investigator Rodger McLemore testified at the trial in El Dorado Wednesday that the elderly woman was beaten in her nursing home bed with a blunt object. McLemore testified that, based on more than 30 years of experience as a police officer, he thought Ryan had suffered blunt trauma from an object such as metal knuckles.

Shermika Rainey, another nurses' aide, was charged along with Wilson, but pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison and may testify against Wilson.
