Yes, be very careful with the del command as it does not record to the Recycle Bin what is deleted.
If you are a non-techie, then I recommend the following: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup This will clear out much of your temp and old install files left behind that are no longer of any use. A big hog is IE if you stick w/ the defaults it occupies up to 10% of your Hard Drive. I recommend the following here: Start IE, then Go Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > Settings I set my size to 50MB rather than a percentage of Disk space. For the more advanced users you can further enhance your performance through MSConfig. DO NOT USE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! Start > Run, Type msconfig >From here you can pick and choose what items start up when your computer boots up.
