[QUAD-L] Implant box to stop pain

Hi All!   I have a friend who is a para, incomplete, who experiences alot of lower body pain.  His dr is talking about implanting some sort of box under his skin which would help ease the pain.  I didn't get the specifics.  Has anyone heard of such a thing?  Has anyone opted to have a surgery to "cut the spinal cord" to make the injury complete to stop pain?  I was thinking that years ago there was some discussion here on a surgery along those lines.   Hope everyone had a nice weekend!   Sharon
