Oh Yeah!
Yes they can, but there are some minor problems. Some of the oversize
scooters and very high and wide wheelchairs have problems. Everything goes in
sideways as the security panel separates the front from the back compartment.
Each
taxi is able to
transport just one wheelchair. So if you have a date with another person in
a wheelchair, you have to take 2 taxis.
Its not perfect, but seems to work well in a big city with a taxi medallion
program,
rules and tough regulations. Chicago is also complimented with a fairly good
mass transits program that is accessible. This includes all buses and trains.
Those who live in Chicago and subscribe to the transit program are issued
discounted tickets for the taxis. There are also loads of private par transits
companies that transport Chicago residents.
