Lori,
It sounds as if you have thought of everything. I don't know if you remember, but I asked for help last year with my smelly urine. I tried everything and wasn't able to discover what was causing the problem. I still have some difficulties with the smell, but over the last few months everything has been doing a little better. However, since I put that down in writing I am sure I will have more problems to come in the future. I know every time I say my bowels are starting to get back to normal, I have difficulties once again. I agree that diuretics do have enormous value. When I first rehabbed they used to tell me to drink a beer a day. While I do not do this any longer, I have occasionally drank a beer just to try to get my urine to clear up a bit. I hope you are eventually able to find out what is causing your UTIs.

Cool that you brought that up Billy.I thought about ANYTHING that changed since our moves including the water I was drinking. As I was dumbfounded. But I've moved into 5 different abodes and stuck mostly to purified water. The only real changes I made was "moving from NY." I considered the water thing FIRST. So I tried both good-tasting tap water and purified water in Va and now AZ. Since my fluid intake is 95% water .. I'm a water connoisseur! In NY I lived in 3 different areas within 3 yrs but no UTIs. I move and ... bam! I've come to the conclusion it can't be the state itself ... LOLAnd I'm still sticking to purified water (as in NY).Still being desperate .... my husband brought up the other day that "you used to drink coffee every morning in NY and have not since."That in itself may even be far fetched but it may change urine properties. I've drank enough tea (green and others) and still do. Diuretics.Out of sheer desperation I may try coffee again. Who knows! Have a coffe and a donut on me!Lori-------Original Message-------From: B. Have you been getting these infections since you relocated? I had quite a bit of problems last year, but luckily I was able to avoid a full-blown UTI. I did think I had one about a month and a half ago and the doctor did give me an antibiotic due to the fact I was symptomatic in almost every area, however, my white blood cells were not elevated. This particular antibiotic, Cipro, was able to rectify my excessive sediment and smell difficulties and I have not had to change my catheter nearly as often as I was previously (almost once a week). I have had problems periodically since then, but it seems to be attributed to what I am drinking. I am wondering if the water you are drinking could be causing some of your problems? It doesn't sound like your procedures are at fault.

Is anyone (or HAS anyone) gone through a period of years with back-to back UTIs? I'vehad an indwelling foley for my 25 quad yrs.I've held off on asking because it's all too individual. Anyway, the last 5 yrs I've had back-to-backUTIs. After 20 years of only 'a few.'Three yrs ago I went to a Urologist and I had a KUB done. 3 tiny stones were found andhe wanted to put me under and all to remove them. I asked him point blank - "Willthis help my problem?" He said "no." I declined the procedure and the stones cameout themselves anyway!I had a bad experience with a cystoscopy in 1991 so I've never had one again. Iwas ok DURING the whole procedure but suffered from SEVERE bouts of ADA FULL WEEK after! I wasn't having UTIs back then... it was a routine procedure tosee what was in my bladder.Things have gotten worse since December. I got a nasty pathogen (proteus mirabilis)and mu ex-Dr treated it wrongly for 5 months! When I got a new Dr he thought forsure that the latest generation of correct antibiodic for THAT bug would work. Itdid not.The next step was at-home IV antibiodics for ten days. My urine culture after thatwas completed was finally clear! I was so excited! Then a week later - BAM! Myusual fever & dark cloudy urine symptoms returned. I'm now on oral Augmentin for itand as long as I'm on antibiodics the symptoms disappear and I feel fine. But I can't, of course, be on ongoing antibiodics for resistance buildup reasons.I finally got a referral to go to a Urologist who supposedly is familiar with SCIssince we have our own host of issues.I've had really bad luck with ALL Drs over the years despite doing my homeworkprior, etc.I haven't ever had blood in my urine or anything else flaky show up in mycultures and urinalysis'.Has anyone else had these back-to-back UTIs?Lori MichaelsonC4/5 complete quad, 25 years postTucson, AZ
