Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Estate Tax
Most successful people have taken advantage of a system made possible by taxes. We all depend on those systems. America has some of the lowest taxes in the industrialized world because we actually do tax the poor. Most states tax electricity and natural gas. Everyone pays tax on gasoline, tires, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. I believe large corporations should pay taxes, but this year Exon/mobile was given over 3 billion dollars while it grew to be the largest, richest corporation in the world. Sure taxes are screwed up, but blame money junkies in Washington, not some socialist in California. We would all like to pay less taxes. But we need to cut medicaid by 14 billion over the next 5 years and give big oil 14 billion next year. To save starving children in Appalachia you must buy a new super carrier built in Mississippi. It may not be right, but last time I complained I was labeled a socialist.

Why should "rich" people pay big taxes? Everyone should pay the same taxes and exempt the first $70,000, or do you consider a person making $70,000/yr too rich?
Why should anyone be motivated to get an education and become successful if the government is just going to tax you more to pay for social programs for the less successful?

You pay taxes on money that you earn, then you pay taxes on things you buy with that same money. They get you in both directions. It isn't really a tax on your estate after you died. It is a tax on the schmuck you leave a million bucks to. Actually, its a tax on schmucks that become millionaires. This is just George Bush trying to get his dads money. I think rich people should pay big taxes. If you tax poor people you won't get the money you need for the government to build a new roadway to Sam Walton's headquarters and his little kids are starving for that road
