My insurance carrier tells me that anyone who drives my vehicle is covered.  Whether or not I'm in the van.  I am the owner of the van and my mother is listed as the primary driver.

Insurance carriers are sticky on who drives your parents van and how the
are covered, trained and their ability to drive you safely.
Then there is your parents......
