Subject: your kind words and my new effort Hello! Last year you wrote to me to
express your thoughts on the movie based on my life, The Brooke Ellison Story. I was touched by the many e-mails and
notes I received from people all around the country who were personally affected
by the movie. Please know that the outpouring of support and affirmation
that I received from you was unlike anything I have ever experienced
before. I have been touched by everything that you wrote; and I have tried
my best to acknowledge each letter. Many people who have written to me
have told me about the disabilities that they or members of their families face
every day. To these people I say my heart is with you. Others have written
to say that the journey my mother and I are taking together in our lives has
served as a source of inspiration for them. On behalf of my mother, please
let me tell you that your kind words inspire us
everyday. With that in mind, I would like to update
you on my current endeavor. I am
happy to tell you that I will be running to represent my hometown in the New
York State Senate in Albany in 2006.
In every endeavor I undertake, I do it with a focus on helping to
perpetuate hope and encouragement for those who need it most. This is no exception. My efforts are built on restoring the
belief that, working together, we can reinforce the idea that there is no
challenge too daunting to stand in the way of making a difference in each
others lives. Working together, we
can make a reality the belief that the strength of our society lies not in what
separates us but what draws us together.
This is an effort, though, that draws upon the best of everyone, and that
is where you come in. No, the task is not easy. There is much to be done and I will need
your help to do it. If you believe
in what I stand for and the ideals I represent, can I ask for your support in
