Dan,

After seeing several punk, arrogant or useless Urologists ... I went to what seems to be a great one yesterday.

I liked a "Dr Killion" ALOT!  I told him that a good friend of mine (a list member here) has him as a Urologist and "she likes you a lot."  I said.    He said "Ahhhhh, "Julie" ... I know Julie VERY well.  I hope I can meet up to your expectations."  So I thought that was nice.

He doesn't think/push that "a slew of Urodynamics tests are needed or necessary."
To rule out a *big* stone (that would be a culprit of UTIs and NOT lil bladder stones) a CT Scan of the Kidneys, Ureters & Bladder would tell all.  No Ultrasound and KUB, etc.  So I'll probably do that.

He also thinks I'm getting to a peri-menopause age whereby estrogen levels CAN do whacky things to the whole area down there (and whole body) so he suggests an estrogen cream 2 X a week put around and in the vaginal area.  That's a rough explanation of his version but I can't recall the precise reasons why this happens to many women ---> Low  Estrogen levels & UTIs.  Or maybe just the contamination down there being right next to the vagina.

And the foley of course!

I looked it up and it's true.  Unsure if I AM peri-menopausal yet since I'm still very regular but close to that age.

I know my clear discharge eats at my skin so it makes sense.  I'll look it up.

THEN I FORGOT to tell him the 2nd important thing on my list!!!  Geez .. the last cath change bleeding.  So I called the office when I got home yesterday (4:45) saying I need to tell him that.  Unsure when he'll call back.  Prolly tomorrow morning at 8AM when we're sleeping!  That was late yesterday ... no call yet.  I'll call back soon.

He also suggests LONGER TERM (3 MONTHS) of SMALLER DOSAGES of the antibiodic (Augmentin) that DOES help all my symptoms each month.
One is LESS prone to resistance that way.  My husband mentioned that awhile ago.  Right after my accident I took one Bactrum a day for yrs.  Can't recall when or why I stopped.

Dan ... abt Cipro (bug resistance to it by long term use) ... Cipro got all 5 of my symptomatic UTIs in my first 25 yrs post-injury (a miracle that I had so few UTIs in 20 yrs) and up until abt 18 months ago when I used it in BIGGER DOSES.  I know you said a low dose (250 daily) but IF the bug you have now is resistant to Cipro ... it simply is.  It's not Cipro .. it's the bug.  Despite Cipro being a broad spectrum antibiodic.

I keep a journal on my medical mishaps and see that the bug I had last Nov-Dec (Proteus I'm sure) was resistant to Cipro.  BECAUSE CIPRO HAD HELPED ME UNTIL Proteus was present.

So unsure if the theory on LONGER TERM ( meaning longer than 2 weeks)  of a LOWER DOSAGE (my Uro suggested 250mg once a day of AUGMENTIN which HAS BEEN clearing up all symptoms when on it) has a firm foundation.

All I can do is try.  Hubby mentioned it awhile back and this new likable Urologist (and specialists have come across as thinking they are Gods in most of my experiences so I'm pretty choosy when it comes to my body and these issues of mine) suggested it since Augmentin IS hitting it but not COMPLETELY irradicating it ... so I'm opting for it.

Along with the estrogen cream use theory.  And CAT Scan to rule out a big stone in the kidney or bladder.

I guess the estrogen cream is expensive but goes a long way.  Plus the cost of the antibiodics and I'd be responsible for abt $250 of the CT scan.  $$$  :-(

That's the latest news of the day here on my end.

Brien , also I forgot to add on the uti issues, My urologist made me take Cipro 250 ml. for a whole year and now i'm immune to Cipro-- it no longer can help at this time ;-(      What way do you have to be cathed-- straight or indwelling type ?
                                                                                     thanks, Dan
