I was given a pair of velcro leg straps in rehab but developed enough strength to transfer faster by just hooking my wrist under my legs.

Back when I was doing transfers, I had my wife sew a strip of the same kind of material on the seam of my pant leg below the knee.  It didn't show, and I could hook my thumb into it to pull my leg up.
