I had extreme pain and had to also take methadone on top of 1200 mg of neurontin 3 times a day and still had pain.   I now take 200 mg of lyrica 3 times a day and oxycondone 2 times a day and often skip that.  Aside from the extreme headaches as I came off of the neurontin that are now finally gone, the lyrica is working great.  My pain level is much less than it was when I was taking the neurontin.  It took me a while to notice because I was taking very low doses as I was cutting the neurontin until I finally was only taking lyrica and then that took about a week to start to feel the full effects.  I'm sure it's not going to work the same for everyone but I would give it a chance.

I have been taking Lyrica for 2.5 weeks.  So far, I have received no relief from my chronic pain (pins and needles, extreme cold, broken ribs feeling).  My doctor said it could take as long as 1 month to determine whether or not this drug will have any appreciable effect.  I definitely feel the drug in my system.  Not sure how to describe it.  Makes me somewhat drowsy, somewhat cloudy headed.  It is manageable, but not something I wish to continue if I receive no relief from pain.
