Kaye, if you listen to a woiund care specialist, all wounds are poreventable. The fact is, most occur in a time span of less than 30 minutes. The next few weeks the dead tissue sloughs away. I've actually had my worst experiences with so called, "specialists". They just wanna help, but they want it done their way because in school thats what they were taught. Nevermind if their way means endless months of bedrest. Mind numbing boredom that leaves the patient ready and fit to live under a suicide watch.

This is what cures a sore. "Get off of it as much as possible" If it isn't healing then you're on iut too much. Most medications do virtually nothing if the wound is clean. Do not use heat lamps, use small fans to help dry the wound. scabs are a good thing. I have seen doctors tear scabs open by accident and set the patient back months.

Yes it is preventable in most cases. But medicare doesn't pay to prevent them. The average wound costs $35,000 and takes 9 months to heal. Low air loss matteresses have been shown to reduce the occurance of wounds and speed healing by as much as 300%.. Something that no other treatment has ever done. But you can't get one payed for in Ohio without having 2 stage 4 wounds to begin with.

Can we please give lawyers that make these rules an infected stage 4 wound? I'm certain there is a special hell for all the folks that legislate health care. Maybe we could all push for a new law and  just outlaw wounds.

I am also praying for you, Stacy!
What I'd like to know from you all are- how do these things happen?  Is this some freak thing, these deep sores, or are they preventable?  It's scary!
