Attention Comcast Customers
Comcast Is Blocking Legitimate E-mail

On August 21, 2006, I first became aware that Comcast was blocking e-mail from one of our servers which processes mail list mail and mail that users here have forwarded to outside accounts.

I attempted to call Comcast and never was successful at getting a hold of human being that could actually help. Instead I was referred to an e-mail procedure.

I followed the procedure and was told I would get a response within 24 hours. I got a response approximately two days later telling me that the blacklist of our mail server would be removed within 24 hours. That was a week ago and we've repeated the procedure several times. Our server is still blocked as of August 30, 2006.

At one point I was told that our server was blocked because of, "massive spamming". This was a little hard to believe since we've received zero complaints regarding spam from any Comcast customer or from Comcast employees.

We rarely receive legitimate spam complaints from anyone. Invariably they reduce to forged addresses (and we do publish spf records so providers that want to avoid those forgeries do have that opportunity), people who have subscribed to a mail list and no longer wish to be but mark it as spam rather than unsubscribe, and forwarded spam where a customer forwards their e-mail here to a Comcast e-mail address, and in that situation spam sent to their address here gets forwarded.

Given that I can't speak to an actual human being there, nor can I get anything but an automated response to e-mail, I have no way of knowing exactly what their problem is. I have repeatitively requested they send me a single example of alledged spam, they have not done so. They have not responded to my requests at all with the exception of the bot response to the e-mail procedure.

If you would like to help, please contact Comcast through whatever channels you have at your disposal and ask that mail be allowed from the following server:
IP Address: 204.122.16.68
Hostname: ultra5.eskimo.com

Our contact information is given on our main web page, please feel free to forward that to them as well.

If this is not resolved, I would recommend Comcast customers who wish to participate in mail lists here, or mutual customers that have their e-mail address here forwarded elsewhere, setup an e-mail account elsewhere, such as here (eskimo.com), mail.com, gmail.com, etc, and use that address instead of your Comcast mail address. Alternately, you might want to consider another means of access such as DSL, Satellite, or terrestrial wireless services such as those provided by T-mobile, Sprint, and other cellular carriers.
