Stacy,
I am not sure if I qualify for your questioning, but I am a 42-year-old quad that has been injured for more than 11 years.  Fire the questions away if I am remotely what you're looking for.

There is a girl here that was drinking and playing chicken in traffic and is now quadraplegic.  There is crazy traffic here in the summer when all the tourists get here and these kids get drunk and stupid and put their lives on the line. Not only is this girl a quad, she is a bitter one like it's everyone elses fault instead of her own.  Not only did she hurt herself, but I can't imagine how the person is dealing with the fact that he hit her and what the result of it is.  Drinking can make you do stupid things, especially when you are young and peer pressure is involved.

Amen Stacy!  MADD had one punch in a very nasty boxing match.  Doesn't make any difference whether it was below the belt or the lucky knockout punch, as ya only get one.

If they save just one.... its worth the punch.  Just last weekend in Chicagoland Suburb, 2 young boys were killed and 3 were injuried in a Volkswagon when it couldn't match an off road tree. The two killed after a high school homecoming event had been driving after drinking and smoking.  Now...... only now after the fact... parents are wanting to know where these kids got the gook N shine.  Apparently, they didn't see the ad either......
Best Wishes, you are only getting smarter.... and wiser

You all can be upset with me if you want to, but I think that using the tactic that they did will hopefully make people think twice.  People encounter someone with paralysis at some point in their lives whether meeting them or just crossing paths in a store but most of the time, they don't know what caused the paralysis. When I meet people, they just assume it was a car accident because those people hear so much about car accidents causing it.

I think using the tactic that MADD did, can help these same people realize that it could of been a cause of someone causing an accident because someone had too much to drink and got behind the wheel.  And yes, a person has a lot to lose if they become paralyzed at the cost of it.  Sometimes it takes such a harsh comercial to do it and if it works and people think twice before drinking and driving, therefore, causing less injuries, I support it.
