There are many types of generators. When we invested in one about 3 years  
ago, we decided to provide backup power not just for my essential medical  
equipment but for most of the house. It has a direct feed into our gas line and 
 
automatically turns on during an electricity power outage within 10 seconds. It 
 
can also be tax deductible as a medical necessity. Ours is a Guardian.
