Hi Wheels,

Just take a look around at the scooters that have been sold in the last few
years. I just read about a lady on a Wal-Mart scooter shoplifting at their
store, and then using the store's scooter as her get-away-ride!

You are almost alright John. This policy was coming 2 years ago. CMS
warned the general DME industry to control the dispensing of PWD and stop the
abuse. The industry failed to heed that warning and now, most will pay the
price. Not everyone, but most. In the beginning, CMS wanted to make sure that
those with defined mobility issues were able to get around their houses using
cheap inexpensive powered wheelchair devices. Scripts for powered wheelchair
devices, in Texas went from 6000 for the 2003 year to over 31,000 in 2004. CMS
changed their policy from those who could only ambulate for a few steps to only
those who could not take one step., to qualify for a powered wheelchair.
Last week I saw a Pride Jazzy 1107 on ebay with a starting bid of $99
dollars. I ran the serial number with Pride Mobility and was told that the
chair was only sold in Aug of 2006. CMS was billed for over 7500 dollars and
its being sold on EBay for a starting bid of $99. That chair should have be
returned to CMS for recycle.

Abuses have costs billions of dollars. Quads should not suffer and I hope
not for Powered Wheelchair Devices. Others will.

No sense in getting upset about new wheelchairs. We aren't allowed by
medicare to have a wheelchair that goes outside. If y'all get a chance to read
the new codes you may want to write some letters. It seems we must be taking
all the cool parking places.
