I do realize that some people take stupidity to an artform, but most people can learn to replace a catheter. The damage a clogged catheter can cause is far to great to let it go. I've taught numerous aids to catheterize me over the years. I'm around the aids more and my system is more accustomed to there germs, while I've seen nurses that can't do sterile technique to save there lives and the lord only knows where they slopped around before coming to see me. john -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Sent: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 6:25 AM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Night Shivering
I think it is just different. But something your aides can do, mine never did change catheters, I always had to wait for nurse. It would leak a lot. I have more leakage problems in bed when it does not drain. We laid the bed bag on the floor and it seems to drain better. I don't know if it might be more self-conscious having a bad to some people. It doesn't bother me much. I never had a suprapubic only an indwelling. I don't know what level you are, but it sounds like you need to have a little independence to be able to get the internal bag they were talking about. I think it would be a pain to have to categorize yourself myself. You have to make sure the ostomy bag is draining to the bed bag or leg bag. I have a bed bag on the side of my wheelchair, because that is easier for me, not having to have the empty all the times. I used to wear leg bags. I know guys probably always were leg bag although I have heard of a few people as a list that did not. I guess it is personal preference and if you have someone to empty all the time. I have never had any problems with sores or problems with it falling off all the time. I used to inch wide pink tape that I get from the supplier that really helps it stay on longer.
