I'm not about to get into the enforcement phase of this problem. I've heard
too many horror stories about irate fatties getting physical after being
taken to task by a civilian gimp. They already know the law and the rules and
that they are 'cheating' the system, basically they DON'T CARE. I said
something to a senior who parked on the yellow hashes between two HC spots and
he
said, "I don't need the extra room, but I do like parking up close." This
violation mind set needs to be fixed by the enforcement agency (and hopefully
the doctors writing these foolish scripts) not me. I just want to come and go
as I please even if it means parking out at the end. My rocket erases any
distance inconvenience added by parking out in bfe.

I'm only going to say this one time. Get two traffic cones, (stealing them
is the best way because they get stolen a lot). Block the space beside your
van with them. If you do get parked in then go in the store and tell them that
car has left its lights on.
If you live in an area where you always get parked in, try using spaces
farther away. Doctors give out those parking permits like they use to give out
lollipops. I've seen people with handicapped parking permits for being obese.
I
know your all thinking what I'm thinking. Say something to doctors about it
when you see them. I do.

Lucky is definitely the word Wally. Good AND bad luck actually - just
bought 4 new tires, new speakers for the radio, new AC compressor... and a
completely fluke accident. I was afraid they'd pry it back into shape and
return it
to me. I would have sold it on the street hopefully for enough to cover my
loan - but I would have felt bad thru the whole thing. I'm really glad it
turned out like it did. wifey has vowed never to get behind the wheel again -
unless we move the seat over, or leave the motor off. parking is definitely
a problem, the only way I'm safe is to park cornerwise in two spots with the
door pointed out to the driveway. did it the other way once and someone
squeezed into the 1/2 a spot I left open with my door facing in. even the
handicapped spots are no good as people park over their lines into the hash
marks between us and block me, or a motorcycle will park on the hash marks -
-
the! trip in from the last spot where no one wants to park anyway isn't all
that bad. I just drop wifey off up front. from now on, I'm PLANNING my luck
-
no more trusting the stars.

Consider yourself most fortunate. I've seen vehicles with worse damage that
were repaired and returned to its owner. Your old van, will be sold to a
junk yard for 100-200 bucks with a scrap title. He can never be sold again as
a used vehicle. However, that same vehicle will be chopped and parted for
individual parts totaling thousands of dollars in parts. But that is the name
of the game.
You might consider adding a safety feature to your car that prevent that
from happening again, or watch where you park.
Best Wishes

No - once totaled and paid off by the primary ins company, they (the ins co)
now owns the van. The gap insurance is from a 3rd party who will send the
lender the difference of what my primary insurer pays and what I owe.
Basically, my lender (Credit Union) gets paid in full for the remaining
balance
due on my old van partly from my primary insurer ( Farmers ) and partly by the
Gap Insurer. I'm free and clear. I don't completely understand why the
Gap Insurer will send my lender $1,000 just for buying $220 worth of coverage
from them again on the new van.... that's a complete mystery to me. I'll
let you know when I find out.
