I forgot to give my rationale for women not being quads! First off, we women have a terrible time trying to figure out where to put the strap when we are in the wheelchair. Then there is quad-gut that develops fairly soon after our injury. And I worked so hard to keep a flat tummy, but I thought it was grossly unfair that now I had lost an additional 20 pounds and at times I looked like I was seven months pregnant. :-) of course, the final blow, is the ongoing matter of catheterization. Guys have it so much easier.
And of course with time, we found solutions to most of the problems, and now with the Internet and groups like this one, we are able to solve problems faster, because we have this group to brainstorm with. Hi Debbie Welcome to the list, new women SCI are few and far between! I think we are in the minority for SCI, because God didn't really want us to be quads, but felt he had to balance out the ratios, so we are the chosen few. :-) :-). I am a C4, injured by a bad fall in our barn, and I am a complete. I was 51 when I was injured and had four foster mentally retarded young men, and my daughter, Taryn, who was just 15 at the time. Unfortunately my marriage did not last and my husband and I divorced five years later. We still are friends, and since we share three grandchildren, that is a good thing. Where do you live in Colorado? I live in Reno Nevada, and went to Santa Clara for my rehab. That was 16 and half years ago, and the time has just flown. If you have questions, ask-this group is great for coming up with answers. One of the byproducts of being in this elite group of SCI, is in the innovative way that people solve their problems. From workstations for the computer, to ways of getting a good night's sleep, someone in this group will probably have an answer for you. Hi my name is Debbie. I am almost 2 years postaccident. I was diagnosed as a C4, my function level now is C6 on the right C5 on the left. The first year postaccident was absolutely horrendous! During the second year, I've worked on accepting the new me. I am 47 years old, married, and have three boys one still at home. I am now living in Colorado after going to Craig hospital and have found there aren't very many resources after being discharged. Such as rehab for SCI. I look forward to asking questions in this group. I need the support! Will post questions soon. _________________________________________________________________ Win a ZuneT-make MSNR your homepage for your chance to win! http://homepage.msn.com/zune?icid=hmetagline
