Some religions are used in order to control the majority of the populace. I don't know of many that are utilized to control everyone. As for dozens of cults, that is incorrect. There are more likely hundreds, if not thousands of cults which many of us have no clue about.
This night, it is not meant to degrade anyone's religion, so if I do, I apologize in advance. Don't forget that in the year 35 CE (used to be referred to as A.D.)
