It's amazing how the smallest things can put us in serious situations. Years ago I had a full size Dodge van and me and my pca loaded up to run an errand but we forgot something in the house. He ran inside to get it and while he was gone smoke began pouring out from under the dash. There were no windows open and it was filling up with smoke fast. When he got back he saw what was happening and got me out pronto. It turned out that a wire had shorted and all the insulation had burned off. Fortunately there were no flames. Tim, This happened to me last Thursday. I've been having trouble w/my headlights. My best friend is a mechanic so he fixed them. We got 1/2 mile down the road & they started to flicker on & off again, or they will shut off and on. He can't find a short, doesn't think it's the switch...anyway, we get to where were going and I released my EZ lock switch, it didn't work, tried it again & smoke came like crazy from under the dash. My grand daughter was with us in her booster seat in the back. We yelled for her to get out, (the door and ramp were already opened, out of habit to save batteries then I turn off the van) Dave ran around the front & released the EZ lock. By then I was holding my breath! Years ago I was having trouble with my EZ lock release so Dave rewired it and put a tago (sp?)switch on the door for me to flip. After trying to fix the lights something happened to my wires when he was putting all that spaghetti back under the dash. We got home, he fixed that,(EZ lock) still can't find a problem with the wires for the lights. He ordered something to the 'mother board' under there. If that doesn't work we'll ship it off to Mobility Works to repair. Sorry for the long version but it's VERY SCARY being trapped in a vehicle when smoke is rolling. It has taken me 16 years to learn...'have people know about the EZ lock manual release'!!!! Dianna<----not a mechanic but I tried to explain the story as best I could. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
