SAM SCHMIDT NOMINATED FOR NSCIA HALL OF FAME

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The National Spinal Cord Injury Association has announced its nomination of Sam Schmidt for its 2007 class of the SCI Hall of Fame.

Schmidt is nominated under the Disability Activist category.  Nominees in this category are those with a spinal cord injury or disease that has demonstrated activism towards change in support of greater equality, independence, and respect for persons living with a spinal cord injury.

Through his work with the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, Schmidt has sought to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries along with the impact it has on those affected by it.  Also, he has worked heavily to raise funds for spinal cord research along with supporting quality of life programs for many victims.

To coincide with his passion for motor sports, Schmidt has used his “Day at the Races” program to help spread his word.  Visitors to these day outings at the race track have enjoyed a sense of community, support, and most importantly, have been educated to the options they and their families have when facing their disabilities.

Those wishing to support Schmidt can log onto the SCI website at www.spinalcord.org and offer their vote.   Voting is open only to members of the site, but membership is free for those wishing to sign up.

Voting ends at 5 p.m. edt on October 5th.

Ida Cahill, President of the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation, offered her words of encouragement for those wishing to support Schmidt.

She said, “This is a great honor for Sam, and I hope that we can help earn this recognition he deserves.  I hope everyone that votes will also pass the word along to others so that they too will vote.”
