I have seen this discussed endlessly here on this list, but I thought I would post the letter I put on wheelchair junkie. I don't think I can have too much feedback. Then again, I could be wrong.
I know everyone has their preferences, but since I am starting the process of ordering a new chair I would like to get some feedback from people that might be using similar chairs or equipment. I am currently using a 1995 Invacare Ranger Storm with a Peachtree driving system. This particular chair is really getting old and it is imperative I start the process of getting a new one. I have tried the new Invacare chairs, but frankly the representatives down here in Tampa absolutely stink, therefore I am ruling out Invacare. I have also tried to use the new Peachtree and find it to be incompatible with my needs. I have been using a Peachtree for 12 years now and even though my system pulls pretty hard to the left I'm still able to function really well and maintain more independence than many people with my level of their injury. I have also tried ASL as a replacement to my Peachtree and did not like it at all. Additionally I thought about using chin control, but I use so many mouth sticks and do so many things which I think would be impacted by the use of the chin control but I don't think this is a viable option. I am leaning more toward Magitek in combination with a Permobile. I have tried out the front wheel drive Permobile and frankly I'm just too used to the rear wheel, so given all of the changes I'm going to have to make I would rather use a rear wheel drive chair. Does anybody have any opinions about the C350 Permobile in combination with Magitex? If so, do love to hear them. I have heard that Permobiles bounced around quite a bit when they are being transported in a van. I don't visit this forum too often, but I really would appreciate the feedback. Don't worry, I will definitely be trying the system before I order the wheelchair. Thanks a lot, Q Please excuse any errors. Due to my quadriplegia, I am using voice-activated software and it occasionally makes mistakes which I do not always catch. I therefore humbly ask for your indulgence.
