Hey Merrill, In my adult life I have had several retrievers.
Six years ago I got my first Golden Retriever. Aren't they wonderful? I began going to a local organization that teaches the owners of any breed to become service dogs. After going for about two years... I realized that the organization was more about money than what the dog could or could not do. But once I learned the training method (clicker training... which is now widely used nationwide if not worldwide) I trained her the rest on my own. Ironically... I was just going to ask the group how many Dean Koontz fans are out there? If you are a Dean Koontz fan... then you know how this applies to this thread. :-) Lori C4/5 complete, 28 years post Arizona -------Original Message------- From: Merrill Burghardt Date: 2/27/2008 6:09:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [QUAD-L] Dog Owners I am on my second service dog both Golden Retrievers. The first came from an organization, the second trained by myself. It insults people when I say that their dog s intelligence or what it can do is limited only by how far we take it or require of our dogs. If you work with a dog their limitation is only because of our limitation or how far we take them. Dogs can be taught near anything YOU put your mind into. It is no accident I have a good dog or hat she can do for me. Both of my dogs learned to Quad cough me while in bed. They do know what they are doing but their behavior on command works for me.
