I have also had the Lasik corrective eye surgery and it was one of the best
decisions I've made also. I had it done at least 10-12 years ago for the same
reason Maria explained. I hated wearing glasses and before my SCI wore
contacts and just couldn't really tolerate other people putting them in my eyes
post SCI and they seemed to always irritate my eyes. The procedure was
literally 5-10 minutes with absolutely no pain and maybe a tiny bit of
pressure/discomfort, but I've had much much worse in my 14.5 years of being a
quad. So thought I would add my experience for those interested in having the
Lasik.

I wore contact lenses before my accident. I had to go back to wearing
glasses after the accident and absolutely hated it, as they got dirty so often,
and/or steamed up. I put it off for years, as I was scared that I would get
blinded or something. I went in to see the eye doctor about having Lasik
surgery and they make you watch this video that kind of scares you into not
wanting to do it. I left, not wanting to do it and then in the car ride by the
time I got home, I decided that it was important. I told myself that I don't
know how many more years I have left, and I just wanted to go for it. I just
needed to go with the best doctor I could find. I got a recommendation of
someone that had done the surgery since it had started years ago and was very
well respected. This doctor worked for the Casey Eye Institute in Portland,
Oregon. Anyway, I did go ahead and I had it done years ago and am very glad I
did. I asked a lot of questions to others that had had it done, so I knew
exactly what to expect. A machine does so much of it for the most part and it
goes very, very quickly. If anyone would like to know more details-- I would
be happy to talk to you.

An aide of mine 2 yrs ago had that done. I'm very leery of such
procedures (looking at the long term) like that and laser surgery on the eyes.
With all my medical/Dr f*uck ups .... Not yet.

What you think of the tattoo eyeliner? I think I have seen on the
Discovery Channel or history channel I'm not sure.

Yes I was determine to put liquid eyeliner on & they kept saying I
don't know how your gonna do that you might have to wear pencil (yah right). I
continue to wear it for 8 yrs after incident now I only wear it for special
occassions to bring out the eye's. During the day I like the more casual look.
